CAROLINA FOREST

Second Issue
Summer 2007

NEWS

  • The CFA annual meeting and election was held at 2 pm on Saturday, June 2nd. Four candidates ran for two Director seats. Tom Sargent and Mark McLean were elected to two-year terms. We'd like to thank Rick Lynthacum for four years of solid service to the association as a director! Thanks, Rick!

  • The newly elected board chose Tom Sargent as Chair. The board requested that John Olmstead, Tom Miller, and Andy King return as President, Treasurer, and Secretary, respectively. All accepted. Robert Jackson was chosen as Vice President.

  • A Community Yard Sale was held on Saturday, May 12. Located in the CFA parking lot, ten households participated and filled the area with tables and treasures for the big crowd that turned out all morning long. Members were very happy with the final outcome and everyone had fun socializing. Plans are to make the event an annual gathering... save your stuff!

  • As many of you are aware, the CFA Tennis Courts have been in a state of disrepair for years and are not usable for playing tennis. Several boards over the years have attempted to resolve this problem without success. The current board would like to resolve the fate of the tennis courts once and for all and would like your input. In their current state, the courts are an eyesore and are detrimental to our property values.

  • Please go to our website at http://www.carolinaforestinc.com/cfaboard.htm and complete the email survey you will find there. Essentially the issue boils down to restoring the tennis courts or tearing them down and converting the space to other uses. Please take the time to give us any other ideas and let us know what you think! Results will be tabulated and presented to the board later this summer.

  • CFA broke our Pool Attendance Record 2 out of the 3 days during the Memorial Day weekend. There were 132 people on Saturday and 140 people on Sunday. Per Montgomery County the maximum capacity for our pool is 150 people. Should high usage continue, CFA might need to close the pool on Tuesdays in order to shock it and keep the chemicals balanced. It might be beneficial to call the gatehouse (910)-572-3892) before driving any long distances to use the pool.

  • A gentle reminder regarding our pool rules:
    • Members may bring a maximum of 6 guests with them when using the pool. This does not include the individuals who reside in the member's home.
    • Please do not take alcoholic beverages with you inside the pool area.
    • When renting the CFA Clubhouse, usage of the Pool "IS NOT" included.

  • The rules governing rental and use of the clubhouse have changed. The rules will be explained during a potential renter's initial contact with the office.

  • The CFA Office is closed to the public each Wednesday in order to do bookkeeping and catch up on other clerical tasks. The discovery of Carolina Forest as a resort community by our urban neighbors to the west and north has brought us increased property sales, increased office traffic, and more customer service demands. These demands on a one-person office have forced us to take this step. Your patience and forbearance are appreciated.

  • CFA has arranged for an Ice Cream Truck to come in every Saturday and Sunday during the summer season. Here's the schedule:
    • 2:00pm     Saturday and Sunday    Main Playground
    • 2:15pm     Saturday and Sunday    Pool and Marina area
    • 2:45pm     Saturday and Sunday    Days Inn @ Campground
    • 3:00pm     Saturday and Sunday    LNP Playground

  • A letter was sent to all area residents and businesses on May 3, 2007 regarding the installation of DSL in this area. According to their information, work on this project will begin this summer and will take an estimated 4 weeks to complete. Contact Customer Care at Connect NC for prices and additional information, (888) 290-4601.

  • CFA has a 1-mile maintained Walking Trail that runs adjacent to Island Creek. The trail has several picnic tables and park benches and was constructed entirely by CFA volunteers led by the late Bub Jarman. Check out this beautiful addition to our association!

  • We have one slip available for rental in the Marina . It is slip #L-9 and will only accommodate a 19 ft (or shorter) boat. No one on the existing waiting list qualifies for this slip so if any member would like to lease it please contact the CFA Office.

  • CFA needs volunteers to serve on our annual budget committee beginning in August or September. Please contact the office if interested.

  • This newsletter is available online at our website: http://www.carolinaforestinc.com/newsletter.htm

Beginning with the next issue we will send mailed copies only to those requesting this delivery method . Otherwise, please access it online. If you'd like to continue to receive this by mail, please call Tom Sargent at 910-572-1782 no later than 7/31/07 . If he is not home, feel free to leave a message.

IMPROVEMENTS

  • New accounting software was purchased and installed to replace our old deteriorating DOS based system. This proved to be a monumental undertaking and as of this writing the new software is still being debugged. Once fully functional we should see improved billing, tracking, and accounting capability.

  • A contract to install vinyl siding on the Clubhouse has been signed. The color scheme will be just like the gatehouse.

  • The new Marina is full except for the slip mentioned above and looks great! The temporary piers have been extended to accommodate pontoon boats. Thanks to Mark McLean for overseeing the project
