1. As many of you observed, the lake level went from 1.6 feet below "full pond" to just over 3 feet down in a period of less than 6 hours this morning. This is a good time to remind boat slip renters that they are responsible for securing their boat in such a manner as not to cause damage to either the boat or docking facility. Also, the boat slip renter is responsible for maintaining insurance coverage on his/her boat and to cover guest(s) using the boat or the Marina facilities. These responsibilities are part of the signed rental agreement.
2.Effective Wednesday, September 14th, The CFA Office will be open to the public on Wednesdays from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM for your convenience.
3.Please ensure that whoever mows your lawn does not blow the grass clippings onto the roads or dump them in roadside ditches. When grass clippings get into the ditches, the Nitrogen level in the lake increases, and in some cases the ditches and/or culverts get blocked and causes run off which creates new gulleys.
4.The tenants in the warehouse adjoining the CFA Office have given us notice they will be vacating approximately October 15th.We plan to advertise this nominal 2000 square foot facility for lease in October. It is fully heated and air conditioned with modern high efficiency equipment.Anyone possibly interested in renting this facility should contact the CFA Office at 910-572-2848.
5.CFA exists in an area where conflicting rules exist with respect to burning.
-The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) and it’s state open-burning rule does not allow burning of anything that doesn’t grow – they only allow burning of leaves, branches, and other plant growth – nothing else, and then only if no local pickup is available, and it does not create a nuisance – maximum fine $25,000.
-Progress Energy never allows any burning on their property. This is stated in all of the property leases with them – maximum fine $10,000.
-Montgomery County apparently does not enforce the NCDENR fire rules, and does allow burning in approved, covered barrels.
NCDENR has these strict rules because smoke and soot from outdoor fires can cause serious health problems and pollute the air.Permits from the NC Division of Forest Resources are required for most open-burning.Please burn responsibly.
6.A special thanks to Wanda Cox and the other volunteers who have created and maintained a beautiful entrance impression for all who enter CFA mainside or Lake in the Pines.
7.Please be a good neighbor and report any illegal or suspicious activity.Especially people lifting the gates, driving ATVs on other people’s property, other malicious activity, etc.We have had 12 formal incident reports in the past 4 weeks – 6 of them illegal entry via gates.
